Toward 2020 Challenges & Changes in OH&S

The Occupational Health and Safety Industry Group (OHSIG) Conference 2011 – Towards 2020 Challenges and Changes in OH&S, is the second triennial event bringing together professional groups working in the field of occupational health and safety in New Zealand. The conference creates a unique opportunity for collaboration, networking and knowledge sharing across these professions. Presentations are drawn from New Zealand and internationally and show case evidence-based practice, emerging trends, risk and cutting edge solutions that may impact on your practice. The conference programme will identify and create discussion on issues such as: What the pending changes in OH&S are and how we can address the impact and challenges.  Attendance at this conference will arm you with the tools on how to reduce the impact of OHS risks in the future - PLUS view the latest products and services in the technical exhibition hall.

This conference will not only be of interest and benefit to members of the OHSIG professional groups, but also those working in related government departments (ACC, DOL, MOH, Social Development & Employment), involved in related academic research, HR managers and Health & Safety Representatives.  As well as plenary presentations, concurrent streams will be offered each day which will address:

Stream 1: Science
Explore the evidence that is giving us a better understanding of current and emerging OHS risks, new interventions and controls for reducing these risks. How are emerging technologies going to create new issues and provides tomorrows solutions. What is the relationship between exposure to risk and how it affects human health?   What evidence shows which intervention methods are effective? 


Stream 2: People/Rehabilitation/Medicine
Health, work & well-being are of critical importance to the employee, the business and society. As we move towards 2020, what innovations and practices in OH&S will help us meet the challenges to be part of creating 'Healthy Workplaces'. This stream will explore the results of and possibilities for enabling leadership, innovation, collaboration, risk management and following 'best practices', to create 'good, safe work' which will have a positive impact for us all.


Stream 3: Engineering & Design
How can we use smart engineering and design, both physical and organisational, to create the safest options in the first place or finally deal with the OHS issues that continue to frustrate us today? What are the emerging technologies, how these will impact on the workplace and what OH&S issues will arise from them?  What is the direction of R&D and how we can influence this as a body?
