Judging:

The finalists presented their entry at the conference and the ranking determined on the night by a panel of judges and audience voting.

The 3m award winners were announced at the Conference dinner at the Auckland Town Hall on 11th September

Prizes:

$4,500 towards professional development

  • 1st place (Gold Award) receives $3000
  • 2nd place (silver award) receives $1000
  • 3rd (Bronze Award) receives $500

Gold Award

Emily D'Alterio, New Zealand Aluminium Smelter Ltd
Title of Entry: Re-engineering to Improve Manual Handling


Aging workforce, very manually intensive process and drive to increased productivity. They have a core focus on redisgning and re-engineering tasks and equipment to: reduce risk of injury, suit their employees physical work capacity, eliminate high risk tasks and remove people from the ‘red zone’. The entry focused on three such changes: introducing an anode clamp holder, redesigning a nail gun station and creating a storage rack system.









Silver Award

John Skudder, Norske Skog Tasman
Title of Entry: Norske Skog e-Learning Project


Implemented an interactive e-learning program to provide staff with a library of core health and safety courses. Courses are designed based on local case studies and statistics, deliver a consistent message and easy to update. Focuses on fundamental safety processes such as job safety analysis, eliminating, isolating and minimizing hazards.





Bronze Award

Janet Connochie, Chemsafety Ltd
Title of Entry: Industrial Hygiene Management System


This entry demonstrated an integrated approach to a chemical handling situation. The result was a safer workplace as well as more cost effective use of resources.
